“You eventually realize that it’s the reality of Hollywood. There are peaks and valleys in every career, and I feel like I’ve been through both. It can only make you stronger.”
- Teresa Palmer

It can’t be argued that Australian men are having a bit of a moment in Hollywood — just ask actors like Ryan Kwanten or the Hemsworth brothers, tapped to play roles that America’s slender man-boys can’t quite muster up the strength for — but what of the Australian actresses who’ll follow in the footsteps of Nicole Kidman or Naomi Watts? Enter Teresa Palmer. The 24-year-old Adelaide native has appeared in productions like December Boys and Bedtime Stories, but things are about to ramp up considerably; next month, she’ll be seen as Jay Baruchel’s love interest in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, then she’s primed for a big action moment in the alien adventure I Am Number Four, where she’ll star alongside other rising stars like Alex Pettyfer and Glee’s Dianna Agron.

Palmer called up Movieline last week to chat about the crazy training regimen she’s currently undertaking for Number Four, the big movie she swears she isn’t actually attached to (no matter what IMDb says), and how the swerves of her early career have made her stronger.

This is an article from The Daily Telegraph, pretty identical to the Sunday article but there are a few additional bits.

Teresa Palmer recalls the exact moment she realised she was about to become a bona fide Hollywood moviestar.

“I was sitting in an LA Starbucks in my trackie daks, catching up on gossip over a latte with two girlfriends, when I received a call from my agent saying Adam Sandler wanted to meet with me – right away.”

Following an emergency wardrobe reconfiguration in which Palmer dashed to the bathroom and swapped her sweatpants and hoodie for her girlfriend’s “cute leggings and tee”, she hotfooted it to Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City to meet one of the world’s biggest stars and audition for the role of his love interest in Walt Disney Pictures kids’ flick Bedtime Stories.

Life is a fairytale for Adelaide actor Teresa Palmer who stars alongside Adam Sandler in Bedtime Stories.

Cannes. Hollywood. Adam Sandler movies. It’s hard to believe Palmer, 22, started her professional life stuffed into a Strawberry Shortcake outfit in an Adelaide mall.

She originally had her heart set on a journalism career and admits Hollywood was a happy accident.

“I came from rather humble beginnings,” she says of her upbringing in government housing and time spent selling T-shirts for a clothing store.

“Still, I was really happy.”

Palmer’s big break came when she nabbed the part of a suicidal incest victim in gritty Australian indie film 2:37, a role she didn’t even have to audition for.

While her big Hollywood break, Bedtime Stories, isn’t released until Boxing Day, the homegrown starlet told Confidential yesterday she was determined to take part in an action scene with fantasy flicks star Adam Sandler because, “Why not?”.

“They had a stuntwoman on hand to take over but I wanted to do it – it’s the true Aussie way,” she said.

“It was this massive red horse that I was meant to jump up onto but I just couldn’t do it, so they ended up attaching me to this big machine that swung me up as the horse ran past.”
