"It was one of those projects that no one really believed in other than a few people close to Murali but we knew it was something special all along."
"The first film I did, actually, I played a rape victim who was pregnant with my brother’s baby which was pretty intense especially for the first time I’d ever acted as well."
"With the rape movie, I actually sat down and talked to people who had experienced those sorts of things in their life. I just tried to get as much information as I could and just get it in my head and put something our there and the director kind of directed me and helped me out trying to create and mold the character."
2:37 is a gritty low budget film directed by Murali K. Thalluri when he was mere 19-years old. The beautifully directed film has a wonderful young cast. For many of these Australian actors this is their first film, which is hard to believe as they all pull of the difficult roles like true professionals. 2:37 is an important film because it deals with real issues of today's teenagers that are not often touched upon in a way that is as realistic as portrayed here. It is a heavy film that does not shy away from discussing these serious problems because of this it is often hard to watch. It is also surprisingly entertaining, largely due to its fast pace and beautiful cinematography.
Teresa Palmer is wonderful as Melody - your heart truly breaks for this character. What a powerful performance, especially for a first leading role! 2:37 is a film I would warmly recommend but it is not for those looking for a fun popcorn film for Friday night escapism. - Riikka
